-----------------------
The American Board of Family Practice certifies physicians who meet extra training and testing requirements for treating the whole family. Certification requires three years of training after graduating from medical school plus formal testing in the medical subjects a family doctor might encounter. Renewing certification requires fifty hours per year of continuing medical education plus sitting for another board examination every six years. Thus board certification is a reliable sign of committment to quality on the part of a physician.
