Michael P. Kauzlarich, D.O.
Michael P. Kauzlarich was born and raised in Iowa and graduated
from the University of Iowa with a degree in Biology in 1991. He
then attended the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine
where he graduated in 1996. After internship training at the University
of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth he completed
a residency in Family Medicine at East Tennessee State University
(Johnson City) where he was named both Outstanding Resident and
Resident Teacher of the Year. Twice-nominated for the Caduceus Award
for teaching by the medical student body, he served for 8 years
as a member of the faculty in the Department of Family Medicine
at ETSU, most recently serving the past 2 years as the associate
director of the Johnson City residency program. He also achieved
the rank of Associate Professor of Family Medicine at ETSU and served
as Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine at Johnson City
Medical Center from July 2007 until joining Mountain Region Family
Medicine in October of 2010.
Dr. Kauzlarich is board certified by the American Board of Family
Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians
and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. His particular areas
of professional interest are in the fields of pulmonary medicine,
addiction medicine, and medical education.
In his spare time, Dr. Kauzlarich is an avid traveler with a particular
interest in Hawaii and the Pacific Rim where he enjoys hiking, snorkeling,
and napping under palm trees. He is also a semi-professional musician
and recording artist, having built a fully equipped recording studio
in his home in Gray, TN. To date he has released two albums of his
own compositions and has engineered and mixed recordings for other
local artists. Finally, when he’s not working, traveling, or in
the studio, he can be found in his kitchen engaged in his other
passion, French and Italian cooking!
